Yahoo strikes deal to sell TechCrunch to investment firm

Yahoo has entered into an agreement to sell its technology news platform, TechCrunch, to the media investment firm Regent. This decision aligns with Yahoo’s strategic focus on its core consumer services, such as Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Finance, and Yahoo News.

Regent has been actively expanding its portfolio of technology news outlets. Earlier this week, the firm acquired Foundry, the parent company of notable publications like PCWorld, Macworld, and TechAdvisor.

TechCrunch, established in 2005, has undergone several ownership transitions. AOL acquired it in 2010, and it later became part of Verizon Media following Verizon’s acquisition of AOL and Yahoo. In 2021, Apollo Global Management purchased Verizon Media’s assets, rebranding them under the Yahoo name.

The financial specifics of the TechCrunch sale have not been disclosed. The transaction is anticipated to conclude in the coming weeks.

Yahoo will maintain ownership of other media properties, including Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, and Engadget.
