Foxconn eyes Japan for electric vehicle growth, seeks partnerships

Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant, is actively seeking to expand its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) sector by pursuing partnerships with Japanese automakers. Jun Seki, Foxconn’s Chief Strategy Officer for EVs and a former senior executive at Nissan, emphasized the company’s interest in collaborating with Japanese firms, particularly Nissan, to leverage mutual strengths in EV development and production.

In addition to Nissan, Foxconn is reportedly finalizing an agreement with Mitsubishi Motors to produce EVs for markets including Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan. This collaboration would mark a significant step in Foxconn’s strategy to penetrate the automotive industry by aligning with established Japanese brands.

Foxconn has also expressed openness to broader alliances involving other Japanese automakers, such as Honda, aiming to create a comprehensive framework for EV development. The company’s proactive approach includes organizing seminars in Japan to outline its EV strategies and demonstrate its manufacturing capabilities to potential partners.

These initiatives underscore Foxconn’s commitment to diversifying its business beyond electronics manufacturing into the burgeoning EV market, leveraging partnerships with Japanese automakers to achieve this goal.
