Apple supplier Luxshare weighs manufacturing in U.S. to tackle tariffs

Luxshare Precision Industry, a key Apple supplier known for assembling iPhones and manufacturing AirPods, is considering expanding its production outside China, including to the United States, in response to new U.S. tariffs.

Chairwoman Wang Laichun stated that while the current tariffs have minimal impact on Luxshare’s profits due to limited U.S.-bound exports, the company is exploring foreign investments and delaying some domestic plans. Luxshare is in discussions with customers about relocating some automated production to North America, contingent upon commercial guarantees.

The company is also evaluating further investments in Southeast Asia, noting Vietnam’s established infrastructure despite being subject to a 46% U.S. tariff. Although Luxshare is not currently planning expansion to India, it may consider it upon client request. Wang emphasized that hardware manufacturers typically do not absorb tariff or logistics costs, suggesting consumers and supply chain partners may ultimately bear the financial burden.
